厚街

厚街又名後街，是珠江口的一個小鎮，距離省會廣州45公里，香港80公里。20世紀80年代初至今，來自台灣、香港的資本和中國內地的大量廉價勞動力使它從農業小鎮迅速發展為一個勞動密集型的工業城鎮。工廠裡的工人是進城打工的農民，他們從中國內地最貧困地區來到廣東的厚街鎮。工廠附近的出租屋是農民們進入城市的第一個落腳點，也是他們遠離故鄉後在千里之處建起的另一個家。本片真實記錄了這些在厚街打工農民鮮為人知的生活狀況，它們成為中國城市化進程中不可忽視的重要組成部分。

Houjie Township

This story takes place in the township of Houjie, which turned from a rural village into an industrialized township following the massive influx of Taiwanese and Hong Kong capital in the 1980's. This piece relates the precarious position of the migrant workers who built Houjie, but who are also the first victims of the post-September 11th economic slowdown, forever at risk of being laid-off.
